Lord Byron comes to the Garstang Arts Festival.
The True Story of Lord Byron
The truth does not always sit easily with the fascination surroundings the radioactive half-life of Lord Byron’s legacy: The rake’s rake, savage, drunken, “Heathcliffe on Laudenum:”
“Pleasure’s a sin and sometimes, sin’s a pleasure”
But as the genius poet himself wrote, “Truth . . .is stranger than fiction,” And the truth might suggest he identifies more accurately with the failed revolutionaries and humanitarians of Europe and South America than cracked celebrity. ‘Don Juan?’ Or ‘Flashman?’ Make up your own mind.
